Amma Sri Karunamayi

Amma Sri Karunamayi, born Vijayeswari in 1958 in Andhra Pradesh to parents who were devout followers of Ramana Maharshi, is revered by her devotees as an embodiment of the Divine Mother, with a name — Karunamayi — that translates as "she who is permeated with compassion." Through the SMVA Trust and a large volunteer base, Karunamayi has established an extensive humanitarian program centered in her home region of Andhra Pradesh, including free housing for those in dire need, natural disaster relief, free medical, dental and eye treatment for impoverished communities, education and mentorship programs specifically aimed at preventing child labor, distribution of wheelchairs to the physically disabled, clean water initiatives addressing contaminated water sources, leprosy care, and mobile health clinics reaching remote and underserved communities.
